Tree Inspections are an essential part of arboriculture.
It is now the duty of landowners and land managers to regularly inspect trees on their land. There are varrying levels of inspections- drive by surveys, group inspections, detailed single tree inspections, climbing inspections and internal investigations.
A detailed tree inspection will record information such as height, spread, girth or DBH, age class (sapling, young, semi-mature, mature, advanced mature or veteran), habitat value. Additional information will record information refering to the safety of the tree.
The inspector may look at the butress roots and base for any decay or hollowing. This may involve digging next to a butress root or tapping the stem with a nylon mallet and interpreting the sound of the stem. If the inspector feels the tree may be hollow, they may conduct an internal investigation using invasive or non-invasive techniques.
