Commonly known as conifer butt rot.
This fungi is very well known in forestry circles. It can quickly devastate stands of pine and spruce.
Oddly enough, I have only seen it once on a pine. I have found Heterobasidian on a rowan and a hornbeam. In both instances it was situated inside the tree, possibly having created the hollow.
It is quite similar to Ganoderma resinaceum, but the bracket is much thinner and the flesh is paler.
