Claus Mattheck and Helge Breloer. This is an extremely useful book for anyone wanting to understand why trees grow the way they do. It includes a wealth of information on the biomechanics and physimorphology of trees. 
- Cassell's Trees
David More and John White. This book contains a wealth of information on tree species. Stunning, hand painted images and good descriptions of trees. 
- Classic Bonsai of Japan
The Nippon Bonsai Society. Beautiful photography of ancient bonsai trees. Many trees in this book are 350-1000yrs old! Some good information on the history of bonsai and the individual trees within the book. 
- Collins Field Guide to Trees of Britain and Europe.
Very comprehensive and detailed field guide for identification of trees. Lots of rare trees included.
