The Chinese Elm is a very popular subject for bonsai enthusiasts. It is, however, often confused with a Zelkova
and is often sold as such. The Chinese Elm is part of the Ulmus genus and the Zelkova is a genus in its own right.
The Zelkova is deciduous, providing better autumn colour and has larger leaves. It is Japanese in origin.
The Chinese Elm is semi deciduous (mine more renews leaves than sheds them for winter). The leaves are not much
bigger on mature trees.
