Perenniopora fraxinea

Perenniopora found on the branch of an oak.
Perenniopora is usually confined to the base of a tree. This is an unusual case because the bracket was found on an oak branch, 5m up.
On close inspection, there was a hollow buttress root, the stem was hollow and there was a decay pocket on the branch next to the bracket.
Notice the decayed buttress root. This is probably the entry point of the fungi and then it may have hollowed the stem upto the branch where the bracket appeared. The tree appears to have grown two new buttress roots either side of the hollowed one.
